As intimate and accessible as the "Mutants" may be, they are also strange. They have no more than hints of mouths, ears and eyes. They do not have tails. Since they lack genitalia, their gender is difficult, if not impossible, to determine. While they seem as familiar as farm or domes¬tic animals, they are clearly hybrids. The features and gestures of the "Standing Mutants" bring to mind rhinoceroses, walruses and seals, as well as humans.
